Warley Woods Community Trust

Warley Woods Drinking Fountain Restored

We maintain and manage 100 acres of beautiful historic parkland on behalf of the local community; providing events and activities for all.

What does your charity/project do?

The local community has been managing a large green space in an urban area since 2004. It contains woodland, parkland and a nine hole golf course. They have improved it and its facilities and now run many events and activities to involve as many local people as possible. They work with local groups and individuals to ensure wide access to the site for community activities. The Trust has almost 800 members and over 400 volunteers gave time last year to help maintain, manage and organise.

How does your charity/project support the local community?

We are a community centre without a roof forming a central focus for the local community and a beautiful inspiring place where they can relax and unwind in an urban area. The project helps bring the local community together, increases community pride and community well being.

What do you plan to use the CommunityForce award for?

We would spend it either on a new mower for the park, as our mower is 8 years old and needs frequent maintenance for breakdowns or on repairing our edwardian drinking fountain roof which has sadly been vandalised several times and we need to make it look beautiful again and less vulnerable in future.
