Hi's 'n' Lows

Rough Sleeper

We support any adult that has or has had issues around drugs and alcohol this also incorporates supporting those that find themselves homeless. The project supports lifechoices aiming to create positive outcomes from negatve experiences.

What does your charity/project do?

Hi's 'n' lows is a lowthreshold tier 2 service and is often the first point of contact for individuals who find themselves homeless or with substance misuse issues or both. We are not treatment based but refer into treatment agencies where appropriate. Through our support and activities we help to intergate members of this very marginalised community back into the local community. We offer a drop in facility 4 days a week for free food and drink and one night of outreach supporting sex workers.

How does your charity/project support the local community?

During extreme winter weather conditions we operate an emergency shelter for the local homeless community, this is a 24 hour facility taking self referrals and refferals from other services including the police and hospitals, during this shelter all meals and drinks are provided free of charge. We also offer a free clean up service run by staff and volunteers from the drug using community to safely remove for incineration any drug litter that may carry a blood born virus risk.

What do you plan to use the CommunityForce award for?

At each of our walk in drop in facilities we cater for 40 individuals at no charge to the service user, this costs the project 22 pounds per drop in, a community force award would enable us to fund not only the food for this facility but also volunteer expences that work in the drop in and the food for the outreach work. We may also be able to make a contibution towards the utilities used at the drop in's such as lighting heating etc.
