Hawkesbury Skate Park Appeal
We are raising funds to build a skate park in our village. Young people are very keen to have a safe place to skate and cycle away from traffic and pedestrians and develop their skills.
What does your charity/project do?
We are a group that started as a result of local young people's enthusiastic efforts to have a skate park built in Hawkesbury Upton. They contacted the local Parish Council, presented our local councillor with a petition of 80 young peoples names and built interest in our local community. We have started fundraising, built a new website and we are beginning to work with companies on the design of the skatepark.
How does your charity/project support the local community?
The skate park will keep our young people safe, promote healthy activity and give them a place to meet. We live in a rural area with limited options for recreation for teenagers and young people. The skatepark will be a great way to provide a good, healthy outdoor activity for older children and teenagers – and it will help keep their scooters and skateboards off the streets.
What do you plan to use the CommunityForce award for?
The £6 000 would go towards the build costs of our skate park. Our target is £40 000 and this would be a sizeable contribution to our fundraising.
