Cuerden Valley Park Trust
To encourage more people to visit the Park we would like to build a facilities block, toilets, etc. This facility is currently not available in the Park outside office hours, this would help us to improve our fund raising events programme.
What does your charity/project do?
The Charity runs Cuerden Valley Park, covering approx 650 acres, which has developed into a green oasis in increasingly urban surroundings. It is run by an volunteer Trust Board which receives no local or national government funding. During the 19 years that the Trust has owned and managed the Park the Woodlands have matured with sensitive management, the biodiversity of the meadows increased and ponds have become a haven for invertebrates.
How does your charity/project support the local community?
Currently there are no toilet facilities available within the Park The Park is central to the communities of South Ribble and Chorley providing green space for walking, cycling, and picnics. Education events are run for children of local schools. Visitors come to us from all over Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside, (approx 250,000 visitors annually) a facilities block would give us the potential to hold more formal fund raising events all helping to keep the Park open.
What do you plan to use the CommunityForce award for?
The Trust Board is planning to hold more Fund raising events for which we currently have to hire in toilets and power generation. Our own permanent block would relieve this expenditure and encourage more visitors to these events. The funding would contribute towards the planning, erection and fitting out of a facilities block including permanent water, sewage and electricity in the event location within the Park. This would include male/female toilets and baby changing facilities.
