1st Rhosnessney Scout Group
Having celebrated our centenary last year and now being the largest scout group in North Wales, we would like to bring the hut and the grounds up to date and build on our success to provide opportunities for even more young people in the area.
What does your charity/project do?
The scout association aims to promote the development of young people aged between 6 and 14 years old in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential by providing them with a wide range of activities to do and this is run solely by volunteers. As a result, the community benefits from having mature and responsible young adults amongst them who are role models for their peers. 1st Rhosnessney Scouts has over 100 members with a second Cub Group opening this year.
How does your charity/project support the local community?
The scouts provides a place for the young people in the local area to meet with like minded individuals. It is also used weekly by the Explorer Scouts, aged 14 to 18, and a pensioner group, the Hollies. If the hut was updated and more attractive to use, we are hoping it would be used for regular meetings of other groups eg. slimming groups, playgroups, dancers, and for such activities like children's parties as it is centrally placed and has been part of the community for 76 years.
What do you plan to use the CommunityForce award for?
To overhaul the scout hut grounds to make it a much more practical area by rebuilding the crumbling brick perimeter wall and topping with security fencing, raise the flower beds for the younger children to maintain, add vegetable beds to encourage self sufficiency and educate, revamp the campfire area to accommodate more people, tidy around the back of the hut to make it a useable area and replace the uneven paved entrance path.
