Penwortham St Teresa's FC
The aim of the project is to provide football in a fun, safe environment to children of all abilities and backgrounds. These activities aim to maximise participation in the local area and engage children in inclusive, worthwhile sporting activity.
What does your charity/project do?
Penwortham St Teresas FC (PST) holds FA charter standard status and offers a range of football activities in the local community. The organisation is a junior football club that runs 16 teams from Under 16s to Under 7s and an academy for the under 6s. The club comprises of approx 250 members and provides football provision for children from within the local community and the surrounding areas. In addition, the club provides holiday child care football courses for children in the local community.
How does your charity/project support the local community?
PST provides approx 250 young people aged 4-16 with various football activities including structured football in local leagues, high quality coaching sessions, holiday clubs and social events. The overall aim is to use football/sport as a vehicle to encourage children to make new friends, keep off the streets and build up core skills such as confidence, team work and communication through football. The club also provides young people the platform to get involved in coaching and volunteering.
What do you plan to use the CommunityForce award for?
Coach Education - Provide 16-18 year old volunteers with an FA Level 1 coaching qualification. Free Holiday Clubs for children - Fund 12th months worth of FREE holiday courses for up to 100 children per week during school holiday periods. Community Coaches - Deploy community coaches into local community to provide FREE football coaching sessions in schools and on saturday mornings. Central Venue - Begin a process that allows the club to centralise it's operations and become more efficient.
