We are a new organisation looking to community asset transfer a disused library in Wednesfield and operate as a community centre for a town that is losing the Jennie Lee Centre. This will entail repairs, refurbishments and upgrades to the building that we are trying to fund raise for. We are looking to raise over £38000 in total and we hope that a proportion will come from NWCF. Local residents form the steering group and have begun raising funds of which we have generated circa £4000 already.
How does your charity/project support the local community?
We will offer the bookable time to community groups, individuals and public agencies to offer facilities, services and activities for the local community. We already have use enquiries from dance groups, St Johns ambulance, training or educational operators, and a range of community groups and potential projects as well as individual party and event enquiries. A range of documents, papers, policies and procedures are available from us. Our bank is Barclay's at a local branch.
What do you plan to use the CommunityForce award for?
The sum would be set against repairs to roof and ceilings of circa £13000 or kitchen refurbishment and disability upgrades of circa £18000, signage circa £250, and flooring yet to be costed. A local group and potential user Wednesfield Heath Development Network wish to fundraise for the blinds at circa £1700. Decor to be done ourselves at circa £500. We have quotations as evidence.
