Community Transport Waltham Forest

Driven by our community

We provide a specialist transport service for voluntary groups in Waltham Forest to enable individuals with mobility problems to access health, education, leisure services and go about their everyday essentials in a safe friendly environment.

What does your charity/project do?

We offer minibuses at affordable rates to youth/voluntary organisations to support the work of their organisations either on a self driver or driver provided basis. We have 120 local organisations who use our service. We provide a Door to Store shopping service for the elderly and disabled enabling individuals to remain independent and at home for longer, we run an excursions club programme for the elderly and disabled and we provide training for volunteer drivers to support our member groups.

How does your charity/project support the local community?

We increase the capacity for voluntary sector organisations to provide open and accessible services to their members by supplying suitably tailored transport options for their members who would not otherwise be able to participate in community life. Our services enable other organisations to rationalise their resources through use of transport only when necessary. We provide driver training to improve volunteering and employment opportunities for local people involved in community activity.

What do you plan to use the CommunityForce award for?

The award would be spent on supporting the costs of the excursions club and development of an area support service to community organisations in LB Newham who currently do not have a Community Transport Service.
