Penniwells Riding For Disabled Centre
Penniwells offers riding to up to 140 disabled adults & children each week. We are looking to buy a new pony for the Centre so we are able to continue this much needed service. The movement of the pony is unrivalled for improved muscle tone & balance.
What does your charity/project do?
All our riders are encouraged to ride to the very best of their individual ability. We encourage many to take part in competition at Regional, National & International level. 12 competed successfully at the RDA National Championships 2011 and reached a total of 18 class wins between them with 5 also becomming National Champions. All are coached to ride and work on their own muscle tone, fitness and skills. For many this is the only exercise they take part in all week.
How does your charity/project support the local community?
Penniwells offers many work placements to local schools, universities & colleges. Younger volunteers undertake their Duke Of Edinburgh Awards. We offer placements for people looking to get back into work. 5 local schools and 4 day Centres bring riders to us on a regular basis. Penniwells is a special place giving opportunity to not only our disabled riders but also for our volunteers to give something back - It is such a positive, rewarding & friendly place.
What do you plan to use the CommunityForce award for?
The award would be used to buy a new pony - for this money we would hope to be ablet o find a 15hh weight carrying cob type as well as being to buy all the equipment and tack to go with it - IE: saddle, bridles & rugs. Without our ponies we cannot continue to offer such a worthwhile service.
