Paul's Place

To give disabled adults additional opportunities to participate in sport. Most disabled people do not take part in an active sports programme due to lack of support. The improvement in health will benefit them and supports self confidence and wellbeing

What does your charity/project do?

Paul's Place support adults with all physical disabilities. We have a day facility five days a week plus active evening and carers programme. We work with the local community working with local schools and business's so that we become an integeral part of the community. The sports programme will run from our local leisure centre. This will enable disabled and able bodied people to work together. We play a game called Boccia and in the last three years we have been in the nationals in Nottingham.

How does your charity/project support the local community?

Paul's Place support all of its members and carers (300) to have an active happy life. Our communities need to become more inclusive to minority groups. We help people in our community to understand our needs by presentations at senior schools, supporting teachers in junior schools and helping out in local businesses. We help with adapted housing needs, social needs and make sure that our members and carers have all the support they need and are not lonely.

What do you plan to use the CommunityForce award for?

We would have a year sports project. Leisure centre costs £1.440 Tutor costs £1.920 Transport costs £2.400 Total £5.760 The leisure centre costs would be the gym where they have special equipment. A tutor to play team games, yoga and relaxation. Plus transport to get to the leisure centre. This project will support up to 50 disabled people to improve their health and help others in our community to accept other people.
