Hayling for St George
On 22nd April 2012, we are having a Community Charity Gala Concert on Hayling Island. To celebrate St Georges Day, 60th anniversary of the Queen's accession to the throne and 30th anniversary of the Falklands Conflict. Help with funding appreciated
What does your charity/project do?
Bringing together the whole community to celebrate all things English and Patriotic. The young helping on the day, the older watching the concert. The Mayor representing HM the Queen. A collection will be taken for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity. Charity chosen by our stars of the day, HM Collingwood Volunteer Band. The concert is to be free to all residents of the borough of Havant. Paid for by sponsorship. Local business's will benefit from the increased visitors to the island.
How does your charity/project support the local community?
An event such as ours will bring our community together in a common goal. A celebration of all the things that make our country great. An entertaining day for all the family, with something for everyone. The charity we will be supporting is local to us, and being so close to Portsmouth, the Navy is special to us all. Hayling Island has some 18,000 residents, but, is sometimes unknown except locally. Our event will put Hayling on the map! Our concert will give us pride and a sense of community
What do you plan to use the CommunityForce award for?
Improvements to our Band Area at Eastoke Corner, we have a canopy for the bands. but need more "weather protection" and a form of temporary seating. It is an area used by local groups during the summer months, any additional facilites would be made available to all organised groups using the area. At Christmas we have a Carol Service, and Playing on the Plaza during the summer. All would benefit. The area is very popular with all ages, any improvements would be so gratefully received by all.
