Corner House Youth Project
Our work is focused on the needs of young people aged 8-21 years. Young people's participation in the development of our services shapes the organisations overall activities. We believe in the rights of young people to be heard, valued and respected.
What does your charity/project do?
•Youth Work-informal education raising self esteem, providing new experiences and safe places to go. Includes working with gender specific groups, young people from BME communities, detached and outreach work •Alternative Education- Accreditations are delivered to those no longer in mainstream education •Extended school activities-Includes Young Leader Award •Holiday activities- including a yearly community event •Intervention work-eg drugs, alcohol, anti-social behaviour and knife crime
How does your charity/project support the local community?
We offer interventions and youth clubs which reduce crime and anti social behaviour as well as working with the teenage pregnancy strategy to help reduce teenage pregnancy in the local areas. Staff work with young people to plan and deliver community events for example Play Day which many families benefit from. The young people also help to improve their local environment by doing organised litter picks and graffiti removal.
What do you plan to use the CommunityForce award for?
•Interactive white board and other resources for alternative education •Equipment and resources for youth club sessions, eg laptops, sport equipment arts and crafts etc •Trips as rewards for positive work by young people during school holidays •Marketing materials •Specialised workshops/tutors eg anger management, circus skills, counselling, team building •Building maintenance costs
