Alzheimer's Society

Winner
Katie and Alf Crayden, 'we find life very difficult now, but the support we receive is fantastic and stops us being completely isolated.'

To run a monthly lunch club for people with dementia and their carers.

What does your charity/project do?

We provide people living with dementia and their carers information and support which enables them to make informed decisions to plan their own lives with dignity, control and choice. Many people affected by dementia become socially isolated and have very limited opportunities to join social groups as the behaviour of the person living with dementia may not be understood by others in ordinary community settings.

How does your charity/project support the local community?

To help families living with dementia to feel part of society, our aim therefore is to improve the quality of life for local residents in Gosport. Enabling them to live as independently as possible and to meet regularly with others in their position. This enhances personal well being and promotes friendship networks and peer support, thus has the longer term objective of helping to break down the problems of social exclusion and isolation.

What do you plan to use the CommunityForce award for?

If successful this funding will be used towards the facilitation of a monthly lunch club, venue hire, refreshments, and other associated costs of the service.
