Taking exercise to rural locations in North Norfolk and providing Gym Tai Chi and Nordic Walking sessions in villages for the 50+ age group and working with disabled people as well at day centres enabling them to be part of the community

What does your charity/project do?

The Mobile gym service is at present funded by Age UK and the Big Lottery but our funding runs out in March 2012 therefore we are now seeking more funding so that our work can continue. Our aim is to provide exercise sessions in rural village halls where people have little or no access at all to either transport or facilities. When we go to a location we stay up to 4-6 months and within that time we try to make there sessions sustainable so that we do not leave the villages with nothing.

How does your charity/project support the local community?

We are supporting local communities by making their sessions sustainable and helping them to get funding from Awards For All for up to £10.000 we now have three Community Gyms that have been set up in by the Mobile Gym Service and we now have a fourth coming shortly. This all adds great value to the service that we are providing for the community and enabling people to improve their wellbeing and feel empowered to have a facility in their village that they can run their selves.

What do you plan to use the CommunityForce award for?

If we were to get £6000 for our project it would mean that we could continue our work for a few more months and more villages would benefit from our service We also need new equipment for our sessions so this money would help to keep our standards up as well and keep up to date with all the latest fitness ideas and training , we have just managed to raise money for a defibrillator for our gym so we may also be able to purchase another for one of our community gyms as well
