Deeside Silver Band
The object of Deeside Silver Band is to educate the public in the musical arts and in particular the art of brass band playing, and supports local community groups with concerts to entertain and aid their fundraising efforts throughout the year.
What does your charity/project do?
Deeside Silver Band trains brass players (young and old, of all abilities) and is in the process of reinstating the Training Band, which in the past trained Paul Mealor, composer for the recent Royal Wedding. New members are essential to enable the only remaining marching band on Deeside to continue to support Civic and Remembrance parades, and to ensure we can continue to entertain and support local churches, charity groups, hospitals and homes for the elderly.
How does your charity/project support the local community?
The Band trains and develops brass musicians from first steps, whilst at the same time engendering respect for others, and community service. We play for all the local community groups, assisting their fundraising efforts, including the Community Hospital, churches of all denominations, and other charity groups. The Band plays for Civic and Remembrance parades, supporting the British Legion and Services.
What do you plan to use the CommunityForce award for?
The Band operates on a reduced or nil fee basis for many of the community groups it supports when performing for their events. This award would assist greatly with the onerous running costs of the organisation i.e. rent, insurances, Performing Rights, helping to safeguard the future of the Band for the future, but would also be used for additional instruments and uniform for the Training Band which we are in the process of reinstating. Sea Cadets are keen to join so these funds would help a lot.
